The Office of Admissions is offering an exciting opportunity as a 12 month, full-time Admissions Counselor for South Dakota State University. This individual will assist in meeting the University enrollment goals through implementation of the undergraduate admissions recruitment programs. The Admissions Counselor meets with and advises prospective students about the academic offerings, services, activities, and other opportunities of the University. SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or coordinate offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations.
• Professionally represent SDSU at college fairs, high school visits, and other off-campus programs.
• Meet with prospective students and families that visit the SDSU campus.
• Successfully manage assigned territories to meet enrollment goals of the university.
• Establish an effective communication program with students from an assigned territory including telephone, written communication, email, and social media.
• Determine admission status of freshman students.
• Respond to phone calls for information.
• Tele-counsel with prospective students about admission processes.
• Participate in Professional Service as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.
Earned Bachelor’s degree. Must possess strong communication skills to include written, electronic, oral, telephone, public speaking, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task with a commitment to detail and follow through. Must possess ability to represent SDSU in a professional, positive manner. Must be willing to travel extensively, work flexible hours, and possess or have ability to obtain valid driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
An independent, self-starter who is committed to meeting the goals of the SDSU Admissions office. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment. Knowledge of SDSU, South Dakota, and the Midwest is preferred. Recent and relevant experiences at SDSU and/or successful admissions experience at relatable institutions is desired.
