12-month, non tenure-track Coordinator of the Mass Spectrometry Facility in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at South Dakota State University invites applications for the Coordinator of the Core Campus Mass Spectrometry Facility (CCMSF). The Coordinator is responsible for operating and maintaining the CCMSF, which includes providing access to the instrumentation, providing basic and advanced training to users, troubleshooting, maintaining and upgrading equipment, providing research support to department and university faculty in the area of mass spectrometry, and managing facility finances.  The successful candidate will work with a diverse group of biologists, chemists, engineers, and materials scientists to assist users of the facility in problem solving, strategies of analysis, and will analyze/interpret data from samples submitted to the facility.  The successful candidate will also initiate and coordinate SDSU’s efforts to strengthen the CCMSF, including analysis of equipment needs, potential for growth, identification of funding sources, and working collaboratively with research faculty to submit proposals to competitive funding agencies.

Required Qualifications:
An earned MS in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline by start date; experience in the operation and maintenance of mass spectrometers and related equipment; effective oral and written communication skills; effective organizational skills; and effective interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications:
Ph.D. level coursework in Analytical Chemistry or Spectroscopy/Spectrometry.
