Our IT systems support all company global activities: selling, designing, manufacturing, and servicing. The infrastructure provides the backbone for effective and secure operation of these systems, as well as communications and other key business activities. Our IT team is nearly 100 employees plus key business partners, and our annual investment is approximately $20 million.

IT department responsibilities/services include:

Core: information assurance, infrastructure, client services.
Development: business and process management, software development, enterprise applications and architecture, and data.
Long-term strategy aligned with Daktronics goals and objectives.
The Director of IT balances their time between leading the IT team, leading the IT technology strategies, and partnering with company leaders.. The Director of IT is supervised by the VP for IT and Business Development, who provides support and guidance for IT as well as for our business ventures that are synergistic with IT technologies.

Lead the IT team:
Develop and delegate to leaders within IT, to successfully lead and develop their teams and functions, as well as fulfill the mission and deliver results to the company.
Model leader behaviors. Foster successful relationship management with the diverse stakeholders of the IT team, including multiple employee groups, compliance entities, and vendors/partners.
Lead IT members in operational, tactical, and strategic activities, in a way that helps them develop key competencies that lead to successful results, including emotional intelligence, critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication.
Cost-effective utilization of resources allocated to IT for support, systems, and projects.
Lead the IT strategies:
Directly supervise the architecture team, which focuses on researching, developing roadmaps, and partnering with other IT leaders and supporting key projects to further progress toward the shared visions.
Lead the architecture activities, which focus on meeting business needs through:
Process – business process and supporting systems
Technology – core technologies, common platforms, system integration and simplification
Security – information security, information assurance (ie recovery), risk mitigation
Data – ‘data as an asset,’ data design and integrity, database technologies and architecture
Foster strategic and disciplined thinking in IT leadership, especially related to the selection of technology (infrastructure, information systems, applications) and how to apply it at Daktronics
Lead long-term planning, including multi-year strategies and investment themes as well as monthly check-and-adjust activities
Oversee global IT regulatory and compliance programs (Examples – SOX, HIPPA, PCI)
Oversee IT policy development, training, and compliance in conjunction with HR
Partner with leaders company-wide:
In partnership with executives, engage in company-wide initiatives and decisions
Lead the development of IT investment themes, in partnership with other leaders
Communicating financial needs and balancing spend levels to align with business profitability goals
Lead high-level investment project prioritizing
Lead key company-wide initiatives supported by IT
Engage in risk oversight, leading the risk mitigation and governance activities related to IT and information assurance
Provide direct support to key vendor relationships, such as Microsoft, Oracle, EMC, VMware, PTC
Sustain an effective habit of self-development, both in leadership behaviors and in technical expertise


Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a business or technical fieldSignificant demonstrated success and capability in: leading teams and developing people, leading projects/portfolios, technical learning and strategic thinking and planning, and leading complex and business and technical functions
Demonstrated behaviors/competencies consistent with Daktronics culture and core values
Understanding of Daktronics customers and products, and understanding of our selling, designing, manufacturing, and services processes and systems
Understanding of IT related systems and technologies: infrastructure, risk/compliance, enterprise systems, architecture (process, technology, data, security), software/database development (agile), IT process delivery (ITIL)
Willingness and ability to perform other responsibilities and activities as needed or assigned
Ability to travel both domestically and internationally on a regular basis. Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet Daktronics Qualified Driver definition. Motor vehicle records will be checked. Travel will include air travel and driving.
