The Plant Science Department at South Dakota State University is seeking to fill two nine-month, non-tenure track Lecturer positions in Agronomy and Horticulture Science. The successful candidates are expected to focus on undergraduate teaching and advising (100% teaching appointment); those seeking a laboratory research-focused faculty position should not apply. The successful candidates must be committed to a hands-on, applied teaching philosophy and be able to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and university leadership. These individuals will become an integral member of a diversified team of Plant Science teaching and research faculty dedicated to student learning. SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or coordinator course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations.



Teach or team-teach Plant Science lecture and laboratory courses in agronomy and/or horticulture such as: crop production, weed science, and introductory entomology. Provide instruction that is current, relevant, and utilizes hands-on innovative instructional techniques and resources; develop and/or update curriculum that includes lecture/lab format and appropriate pedagogical learning environments. Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned and comply with department and university policies in the performance of duties. Serve on department committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program and participate in appropriate professional development activities. The successful candidates will provide academic and career advising to undergraduate students and contribute to student recruitment and retention.



  • D. in Agronomy, Horticulture, or closely related field completed by the date of appointment.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability or potential for effective teaching in horticulture and/or crop production or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of horticulture and/or applied agronomic management of Midwest crops.



  • Post-doctoral experience in crop production or related field experience.
  • Experience teaching at the college or university level.
